When it comes to improving the appearance of the lip area, whether it’s to create more definition or add an overall fullness, there are several cosmetic injectables to choose from. One of the most popular is Restlyan, a widely-used and highly effective dermal filler that delivers esthetically pleasing, natural-looking results in minutes.
What Is It?
A safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler, Restylane was approved by the FDA a decade ago. Although it’s most often used to erase the look of lines, folds and wrinkles around the nose and mouth by adding volume to facial tissue, Restylane can also be used to enhance the look of lips.
Can I Have an Allergic Reaction to Restylane?
Restalyn has a markedly lower rate of allergic reaction than some other lip augmentation treatments, such as collagen. That’s because it’s made of a non-animal, natural substance called stabilized hyaluronic acid. The human body already contains hyaluronic acid and uses it to provide volume and fullness to the skin. Because Restylane is completely biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid, allergic reactions are rare and no allergy testing is required prior to the procedure.
How Much Should I Get to Create the Look I Want?
During your consultation appointment, Dr. Smith will listen to how you would like your lips to look, and decide on which approach and technique should be implemented in order to achieve your desired results. The procedure itself is minimally invasive and takes only a few minutes to perform. Proper placement is important in order to achieve optimal results.
How Long Will My Lips Take to Recover?
Following a Restylane injection, patients most may experience mild discomfort and swelling. These symptoms typically only last for a few days and resolve themselves on their own. During the first few days, the lips may initialy appear to be overfilled, but this quickly improves as the swelling goes down. Most patients can return to work and other normal activities within one to two days following the procedure.
How Long Will the Results Last?
Restylane has been shown to deliver considerably long-lasting results. The look created by one Restylane treatment generally lasts for about 6 months, although in some cases, results can last even longer. Patients can choose to undergo follow-up treatments to maintain their desired results over longer periods of time.
